Volvo Software for Speed

Chances are, when you think “Volvo” you think “safety” and “longevity*.” But “performance”? Well, if the folks from Gothenburg have their way, you will.

Chances are, when you think “Volvo” you think “safety” and “longevity*.”

But “performance”?

Well, if the folks from Gothenburg have their way, you will. On Monday, December, 5, software from Polestar Performance, Volvo’s Swedish neighbor and its official motorsport and performance partner, will be available at U.S. Volvo dealers for vehicles with a T6 engine, including the 2011-12 XC60, S60, and XC70.

This software will add 25 hp and 30 lb-ft of torque to the T6 engine, bringing it to 325 hp and 355 lb-ft of torque.

Said Chris Dauerer, Volvo Cars North America’s vice president of customer service, “Just a few weeks after announcing the performance package for select T5 models, we have already received tremendous feedback from our customers. With Polestar, we are able to deliver our performance-minded customers the enhanced driving package they have been looking for now across a verity of our carlines.”

Just think: safety, longevity and now speed.

*How well-built is a Volvo? Consider the case of Irv Gordon, who bought a Volvo P1800 in June 1966. Since then, he has driven the car 2.92-million miles. Yes, million. He made the Guinness Book of World Records for the most miles driven by a single owner in a non-commercial vehicle in 1998, when he hit 1.69-million miles, which means that every time he drives the P1800 he sets a new record. Gordon anticipates hitting 3-million in 2013.
