The Art of German Car Design

Although this is incredibly short notice, if you can get yourself to the Techno-Classica event in Essen, Germany, by tomorrow, April 5 at 7:00 pm CEST, and you’re your way to the Autostadt booth (Hall 7, stand 410), you’ll have an opportunity to hear a panel discussion about automotive design that will make the short-notice travel to Germany worth it.

The participants are Harm Lagaay, creator of the Porsche 924 and BMW Z1, Johann Tomforde, designer of the first Smart car, Hartmut Warkuß, who designed the Audi quattro and Golf IV, and current Audi design chief, Marc Lichte. The panel will be moderated by Paolo Tumminelli, professor at the International School of Design in Cologne.

In the event that you can’t make the panel, if you can get to Techno-Classica before it ends on April 9, you will see a number of notable cars on the Autostadt stand.

Among the cars on display there is the 1968 Vokswagen Karmann Ghia designed by Felice Mario Boano:
