One collaboration that may have not been noted by many with the U.S. is between Opel/Vauxhall and Renault. While not as sexy, perhaps, as the BMW-Peugeot alliance for the development of powertrains, the German/British and French companies are working together on light commercial vehicles—in fact, they’ve been working together since 1996.

Today they’ve announced the production locations for their next generation Opel Vauxhall Vivaro and Renault Trafic models, which will commence in 2013.

Opel/Vauxhall Vivaro

The Vivaro will be built in the Opel/Vauxhall plant in Luton, UK. The Trafic will be produced in its plant in Sandouville, France. That plant will also produce the H2—or high roof—version of the Vivaro.

Renault Trafic

The current generation Vivaro and Trafic went into production in 2001. Since then, the two companies have produced more than 1.25-million units.
