German Designers Love Kia Designs

It seems that Kia just keeps racking up awards from the German design community.

It seems that Kia just keeps racking up awards from the German design community. Earlier this year it snagged two red dot design awards.

And it has just taken honors in a new international brand and design competition organized by the Rat für Formgebung (a.k.a., German Design Council), the Automotive Brand Contest.

In the “Brand Design” category, which looks at the overall design strategy and focus, Kia was named “Best of Best.”

For Exterior Design, it had three winners, the Sportage crossover, the Kia Optima sedan, and the forthcoming Rio subcompact.

Peter Schreyer, Kia chief design officer said, “By changing our basic design focus, we have given our brand a face, a distinctive identity.”

It has also given the company the need for a larger trophy display case.

Schreyer, incidentally, is German and had an extensive and exceedingly successful career at Volkswagen/Audi prior to joining Kia in 2006.
