As Seen In Automotive Design & Production

Downsizing will continue and be supplemented by hybridization. Electrically driven turbos and superchargers will bring instant boost, while friction reduction strategies and electrically driven engine accessories grow in scope and number. Mahle’s 1.2-liter concept motor, shown here, produces a remarkable 259 hp and 334 lb.-ft. of torque.

Questioning the Electric Vehicle Orthodoxy
According to “experts,” it’s all over for the internal combustion engine. Apparently, they haven’t been paying attention to what’s been happening behind the headlines.

FEA for MPGs
“Engine downsizing has long been known as one of the most effective available technologies for increasing efficiency,” according to Mark Stephenson, chief engineer, predictive analysis, MAHLE Powertrain. While a number of vehicle manufacturers are offering small, turbocharged engines—from the VW 1.4-liter TSI to the BMW 3.0-liter Twin-Turbo—MAHLE decided that they wanted to go one better.
