Anyway, we recently became aware of a publication out of the U.K., 5054. It is about “Motive Culture,” which includes “automotive culture.”

It is a fascinating compendium of things new and old.

It had been an ink-on-paper publication, but as Hilton Holloway, founder and editor of the publication writes in his note to the third, digital version of the magazine, “we just didn’t sell enough of the printed version to produce a third issue.”

So the third is digital and you can buy it here.

While we’re not wont to promote other publications, there is one reason why we think it is worth your consideration.

When we contacted Holloway and asked him about the meaning of the title “5054” he responded, “It was the serial number of the prototype Spitfire.” The British airplane developed in the mid-1930s.

Holloway added that he “thought it made a distinctive masthead”—it isn’t often you see four numbers instead of letters for the title of a publication—“and a good connection with engineering innovation.”

And let’s face it: we could all use more well-written pieces about engineering innovation.
