Listen to Christophe Dupont, director, Design Development Process, Renault Design, talking about "CG," or "computer graphics": "At Renault, the potential of computer graphics was recognized early on, but we felt the time and effort allocated to CG production was a major constraint. As a result, over the past five years, we've worked hard to automate the process for creating ultra-high quality still and animated images. Today, it takes only four digital artists to process the work of our 40 digital modelers. It is now possible, in less than 24 hours, to visualize a virtual 3D model evolving in a real environment."

According to Alias (www.alias.com; Toronto), a supplier of 3D graphics software, the Renault Group is using its products including Alias StudioTools, Alias Portfolio Wall, and Maya for its three-step 2D-ideation, 3D-creation, and development process. A result of this process are final exterior Class A surfaces from the design department for the engineering department; there, the data is used to develop the stamping tools.

Renault Design is working hard to shorten development time through the use of computer graphics deployed in an integrated approach. One of the early projects to benefit from the deployment of digital modeling is the Mégane II.
