One of the reasons why this can be achieved is that there is a proprietary Z-axis design that allows the laser head to be rapidly adjusted to accommodate any thickness variation in the material. In previous systems, when operating at cutting speeds of 1,000 to 2,200 mm/second the ability to make the Z-axis adjustments to handle thickness variations in the material couldn’t be accomplished as quickly, in part due to the Z-axis adjustments being handled by a separate controller. In the new system, the function is integrated.

According to the company, this system is a “competitive manufacturing choice for volumes of less than 100,000 per year.”
