Ford Motor Co. tells investors its efforts to revive its struggling Lincoln brand may include two or more models developed for fast-growing market segments.

Lincoln MKC concept

Ford didn’t say which vehicle categories it has in mind. Reuters cites an unidentified source who says Lincoln might add a near-luxury small car that would debut in 2016 or later for the U.S. and China markets.

Ford announced two years ago that it would roll out seven all-new or significantly reworked Lincoln models by the end of 2014. One of them will ride on the global platform used by the Ford Focus small car and Escape crossover, according to the company.

That model is widely expected to be a small crossover due next year that will be based on the MKC concept unveiled at the Detroit auto show in January. Observers expect the vehicle to be powered by a Ford’s 1.6- or 2.0-liter EcoBoost engines, which produce 180 hp and 240 hp, respectively.
