Looking for a way to increase the productivity in your reaming operations? Check out the BAYO T-REAM, a high-speed system developed by ISCAR Metals (www.iscarmetals.com) to specifically address what is typically a bottleneck operation in machining operations. The BAYO T-REAM consists of an interchangeable carbide reaming head that is mounted on a steel shank and attached via a quick-change bayonet mechanism (for which a patent is pending). The reaming head has internal coolant holes that precisely direct the coolant to the cutting edges. Because this is a modular system—that is, one shank can be used for a range of indexable heads with varying geometries, coatings and sizes—not only is machining optimized, but setup time is greatly minimized because the heads can be changed while the tool is connected to the spindle. The system is suitable for reaming within the H7 hole tolerance range. The runout is a maximum of 3 µm. ISCAR is doing considerable research and product development work for OEM and supplier applications in metal removal operations (not just limited to reaming—not by a long shot), with recent concentration developing tooling for the demands of austempered ductile and compacted graphite cast iron.
