FANUC Factory Automation America’s iLimitS is a software add-on for its line of CNC controls to protect the machine, parts and fixtures by monitoring the spindle load, spindle speed, and up to four coolant flow devices during machining operations.iLimitS works by sampling the machining process at a rate of <48 ms and comparing the data to user-defined machine settings.
A rapid prototyping system is now available that makes parts and molds from powder that's melted by a laser, then solidified in place based on a computer program. Although that may sound familiar to those who are acquainted with rapid prototyping techniques, what makes this system different is that metal powder being melted can even be tool steel.
