This somewhat mysterious-looking industrial object with what appears to be smoke turning into a car body supported on rails is actually the rendering of part of the top coat line that is going into the Volkswagen plant in Tennessee. Called the “EcoDryScrubber,” this system collects overspray of top coat. The dry separation system, part of the larger system being installed by Dürr Systems in the VW paint shop for the forthcoming midsize sedan, is said to lower energy consumption of the entire paint shop by 30%, in the spray booth by up to 60%, and reduces CO2 emissions. The EcoDryScrubber recirculates up to 95% of process air.
