It seems that they were interested in moving more Peugeot 208s, which had declined in sales during the first quarter, so they created an offer that included, in addition to full insurance coverage and payment of a road tax, a rate as low as 99 euros.

They apparently reckoned that they’d get about 300 takers.

Turns out they had more like 5,000, which is about double the number moved in that market during the first quarter.

Apparently German Peugeot dealers were not happy with the factory-based plan that was coordinated with Sixt Leasing and Internet provider 1&1. (Dealer franchise laws are not what they are in the U.S., so there can be direct sales.)

The three people in question were apparently fired for their overzealous plan.

Employment is probably a better metric than sales numbers in some cases.
