Red(ish) Cars for the Post-Holiday: MINI

Gary S. Vasilash

Since the Christmas holiday is essentially over (after all, tomorrow is New Year’s Eve Day, which carries a whole lot of other meaning), here’s a car that’s:

  • Not entirely red.
  • And one you can’t buy.

MINI John Cooper Works

It is the MINI John Cooper Works Concept, which will be introduced at the North American International Auto Show in a couple of weeks.

The body is painted “Bright Highways Grey.” Then there are the red roof, roof spoiler, exterior mirror caps, and Chili Red Sport Stripes on the hood and hatch.

And you can see the peak of red calipers behind the 18-inch wheels.

The car is based on a commercial available MINI, with speed-oriented modifications, like replacing the fog lamps with air intakes. And there is an aero kit added, as in the side skirts and a rear apron with flaps and a rear diffuser.

Presumably, this isn’t too far from what will become a production car, so realize that Christmas 2014 is not all that far in the future. . . .
