It is hard to say whether the fulsome descriptions of menu items in upscale restaurants or names of automotive paint colors are more exaggerated.

It is hard to say whether the fulsome descriptions of menu items in upscale restaurants or names of automotive paint colors are more exaggerated. And Chevrolet is giving you a chance to go down in the annals of Benjamin Moore, Rust-Oleum, and Sherwin Williams in a contest to name the color that will be exclusively used for the Chevy Volt extended-range electric vehicle (E-REV).

The color in question is described as silver with an emerald hue. “We’re looking for a color name that captures the innovation and the spirit of the Volt,” said Maria Rohrer, director, global Volt and global marketing ops at Chevy.

There will be three finalists, all of whom will be flow, with a guest, to LA for the LA Auto Show, put up in a hotel for two nights, and given a $400-gift card and a ticket to the show. The winner, to be announced on December 1, will also have the opportunity to test-drive the pre-production Volt.

The production Volt is scheduled for availability near the end of 2010, which will certainly give the cleverly named paint sufficient time to dry.

If you want to participate, act now because the contest ends November 4 at 8:00 am Eastern. Click here to submit your entry.
