Play Ball!

Today is Opening Day in Detroit for the Tigers (assuming the weather doesn’t throw the proverbial curve). Given the number of people in the D who are associated with this industry, odds are good that there aren’t a whole lot of people looking at this today.

One of the architectural features of Comerica Park, where the Tigers play, is the Chevrolet Fountain located where center field ends. Chevy—which is also the Official Vehicle of Major League Baseball—has been sponsoring the fountain for the past eight seasons.

Not only does it spout water in various configurations as you might expect from a fountain, but (1) when the Tigers get a run, growling noises are emitted from it and (2) it has, on either end, Chevy vehicles.

This year elevated are a Cajun Red 2018 Equinox and a 2018 Silverado 2500 HD in Silver Ice Blue Metallic.

The two vehicles were craned up to the fountain on Monday, the day that GM announced its March sales.

Silverado sales are, surprisingly, down for March. There were 42,410 delivered in March, which is an 11.6 percent decrease compared with deliveries in March 2016.

Equinox sales are, surprisingly, up for March. There were 22,671 deliveries, which is a 5.5 percent increase compared with deliveries in March 2016. This is surprising because the Equinox is at the end of its second generation, which started in 2010, so one might expect that people would be waiting for the 2018 Equinox (which is a much more stylish and competitive vehicle than its predecessor. Just saying.).

Incidentally: for those of you who aren’t sports fans in the metro area, you might find it amusing to know that just east of Comerica Park—as in one street away—is Ford Field. Yes, that Ford.
