According to the people at Peugeot—as in Peugeot the company that produces various and sundry automobiles in France and elsewhere—“The bicycle has emerged as an essential mobility solution for the 21st century.”

That’s because in addition to cars, Peugeot makes bikes. In fact, it has been making bikes for longer than it has been making cars.

Apparently, back in 1881 Armand Peugeot said to his brothers, all of whom were involved in a metalworking firm, “We should start building bicycles.” (OK. He said it in French. And he probably didn’t use that exact phrase.) And the following year, the Brand-Bi—with a front wheel measuring 1.35 meters in diameter and the rear 0.40 meters in diameter—appeared.

They’ve been at it ever since. Or at least it has its Style Centre personnel design the bikes and Cycleurope, which has manufacturing facilities in Denmark, France, Italy, and Sweden, builds them.
