Mazda to Show Takeri

One of the challenges of designers is going from concept to reality.

One of the challenges of designers is going from concept to reality. No, not from the standpoint of getting the idea from digital form to sheet metal, but from concept car to production car. (OK, concept cars are real, just as production cars are, but. . . .)

Anyway, when Mazda was showing its various sinuous shapes on concept cars, it was a “Sure, that’s going to happen.” And then they rolled out with the production Mazda5 with body panels like this:

Concept, meet reality.

Next month at the Tokyo Motor Show Mazda is going to be showing the Takeri, a concept vehicle. It is a rendering of its design language, “Kodo.” We saw the initial execution of Kodo here.

If you look at the Takeri, it appears pretty much like a production vehicle might, its “conceptual” status notwithstanding:

And we have to wonder whether this isn’t something that is going to go from concept to reality sooner rather than later.
