Whereas someone might think “Land Rover” and design by Euclid, the Evoque has a design that is Blade Runner not Flatland. And this has a whole lot to do with the design of the top third of the car.

Which leads us to wonder—and imagine a tone of horror: “What were they thinking?”

As regards the Range Rover Evoque Convertible Concept that the company will be showing at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

“The Evoque lends itself beautifully to the idea of a convertible,” said Land Rover Design Director Gerry McGovern. “This study is not a traditional convertible design execution—instead we have worked with the balance of the Evoque’s lines to retain its distinctive shape and create something that is unique and, we believe, highly desirable.”

Presumably he has to think so.

Yes, there is still the rising waist line. But when that soft-top top is down, it rises to Nothing. Which is not advantageous as regards what had been stunning.

Why there is a compulsion to take something exquisite and then busting out the Sawzall is certainly mysterious.
