Kia Soul and the Return of the Hamsters

Mike Torpey designed the original Kia Soul.

Mike Torpey designed the original Kia Soul. We were so impressed that we named him one of the “Hottest Designers” in 2009.

The Soul is being refreshed for 2012. It is being offered with a new 164-hp 2.0-liter engine or a new 138-hp 1.6 engine. The exterior design features subtle changes to the fascias, as well as new headlamps, taillights, side mirrors, and wheels. The interior trims have been upgraded.

And to help launch it, Kia is going to be running a spot this Sunday on the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).

Featuring those hamsters.

According to Michael Sprague, vp of marketing and communications for Kia Motors America (KMA), “The success and popularity of the Soul continue to grow and attract new customers to the Kia brand, and with music playing an important role in our marketing efforts it is the perfect time for the hamsters to return for a third installment featuring the infectious sounds of LMFAO’s ‘Party Rock Anthem’ to highlight the 2012 Soul’s new attributes.”

Should you be possibly intrigued about what you will see on the MTV VMAs from KMA, here is how the commercial is being described: “’Share Some Soul’ is set in a dark, futuristic video game world in which the hamsters turn battle between alien robots and humanoids into an interstellar dance party.”  (And if you’re not so inclined to watch MTV, you can see it here and not wait until Sunday.)

Of course they do.
