While the availability of tickets for The Amazing Spiderman may be in short supply (or you have to sit jammed between two people who bring to mind nothing more than a transcontinental flight in a center seat of a packed 737), here’s something that is arguably even more amazing that you can watch in the comfort of your own. . .umm, office (tell your boss you’re researching vehicle design, engineering and performance): Gymkhana FIVE from driver extraordinaire Ken Block in his seriously modified Ford Fiesta. Called his “Hybrid Function Hoon Vehicle” (H.F.H.V.), the car was designed by Block and the Monster World Rally Team to compete in gymkhana, RallyCross, and stage rally.
It is also, evidentially, engineered to fly:
It is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces 600 hp, 655 lb-ft of torque, and can power the Fiesta from 0 to 60 in 1.8 seconds.
While that is impressive, watching Block rip it up on the streets of San Francisco (eat your heart out, Michael Douglas) makes one wonder about the suspension that’s used. Chassis engineers ought to take note of what this car can do.
This is unquestionably the most enjoyable 9:52 you’re likely to spend today. And for Travis Pastrana fans, know that he makes an amazing cameo.
