“I’m A Lumberjack. . .” (and It’s Not OK)

Think of two egregious vehicle design cues that, by and large, have disappeared from U.S. vehicles.

Think of two egregious vehicle design cues that, by and large, have disappeared from U.S. vehicles.

One is the exaggerated cladding that was last seen on the Chevy Avalanche in a big way.

The other was when there were sweet rides like the 1979 Lincoln Continental that were available with trim packages like the “Bill Blass Edition.”

While you might imagine that European vehicle manufacturers might be well beyond such things, especially Italian vehicle manufacturers, given the importance of high fashion in their homeland, alas, this is not the case.

Fiat is launching the “Strada by Lumberjack,” a special-edition truck that brings together Fiat Professional’s Strada pickup truck and Lumberjack, a footwear and outdoor clothing brand.

On the exterior of this vehicle there is not only the cladding affixed in a way that makes the excessive use on the Avalanche seem restrained, but on the “Lumberjack red” body panels there are side stickers that read “Natural Story,” presumably in keeping with the outdoors theme, something that not even Eddie Bauer-edition Ford products have with such visibility.

Among those who Fiat thinks might find this to be appealing are “mountain communities, stable owners, holiday farm managers and animal breeders, farmers and vineyard owners.”

Maybe it’s a European thing.
