Good Design Awards Announced

  The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies have announced the winners of their prestigious 2011 Good Design Awards, and if you were a German or Korean vehicle manufacturer, you were undoubtedly quite happy with the results.

 

The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies have announced the winners of their prestigious 2011 Good Design Awards, and if you were a German or Korean vehicle manufacturer, you were undoubtedly quite happy with the results.

That is, BMW took seven awards for products including its 1 and 6 Series, and its ActiveE electric vehicle, as well as some of its motorcycles. Mercedes-Benz took home four (2011 ML, 2012 CLS, 2012 SLK, and 2012 SLK AMG). Volkswagen gained recognition for the new Beetle.

Kia continued to rack up the design awards, getting two, one for the KV7 concept and the other for the Rio 5. And last but certainly not least, the Hyundai Veloster was awarded, as well.

The Good Design award has existed since 1950. The criteria the judges use include functionality and aesthetics (three of its originators, Eero Saarinen and Charles and Ray Eames, set those two down), as well as ecology.
