GM Deploys Sensor Fusion for Cadillac XTS

Yet according to GM, the sensor fusion that makes The Boss so capable has been ported over, in part, to the XTS, so even though it doesn’t have a thicket of antennae and all manner of bracketed sensing devices in evidence, the vehicle will be available with a “Driver Assistance Package” that uses radar, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors for: rear automatic braking; full-speed range adaptive cruise control; intelligent brake assist; forward collision alert; safety alert seat; automatic collision preparation; lane departure warning; side blind zone alert; rear cross traffic alert; adaptive forward lighting; rear vision camera with dynamic guidelines; and head-up display.

Said Bakhtiar Litkouhi, GM R&D lab group manager for perception and vehicle control systems, “We believe sensor fusion will enable future active safety systems to handle a greater number of inputs to provide 360 degrees of crash-risk detection and enhanced driver assist features.”

We’re all for sensor fusion as long as the package looks like the XTS rather than The Boss.
