It is a mechanism that is made with a special rubber compound that springs into place whenever a door is opened so that the paint along the edge of the door isn’t chipped when hitting things like walls or adjacent autos.

When the door is shut, it goes back into place within 60 milliseconds.

The Door Edge Protector will be available in Europe on the 2012 Focus.
