Although the idea of ecologically appropriate cars is getting somewhat more mainstream, presumably there are more than a few people who think of these cars in relation to flannel, Birkenstocks, granola, and possibly even slide rules.

The Fisker Karma, a plug-in electric hybrid, is anything but an environmental hair shirt—Fisker Automotive CEO Henrik Fisker had been design director at Aston Martin, and the Karma is quite possibly a car that James Bond would drive. Just to look at it is to know that this is something that you won’t necessarily be driving to a food-coop in. It has a rated 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and a top end of 125 mph.

Be that as it may, the folks are Fisker are concerned that people won’t get that its hybrids are electrifying. So they’ve started an international campaign titled “Pure Driving Passion.”

According to the company, “A major campaign objective was to educate the public on how eco-consciousness is sexy.”

Clearly they haven’t seen those guys with the Birks. . . .
