Using accurate materials information can facilitate digital design in auto. That’s the goal of AutoMatlC, a new consortium.
As more product development in the auto industry is performed virtually and as material substitutions are becoming the order of the day, having reliable information about materials is crucial. So British firm Granta Design (grantadesign.com) has established the Automotive Material Intelligence Consortium (AutoMatlC), which looks to coordinate OEMs and suppliers in the on- and off-highway sectors in a way analogous to other consortia it has been involved with, like the aerospace-focused Material Data Management Consortium, which was established in 2002. What works for aero, they believe, can work for auto.
